Minority Health Month

April is Minority Health Month and as this month comes to a close let's continue to work at how we can improve health literacy and support the cultural and linguistic needs of our communities.

This year's theme served to highlight how improving health communication for all can help advance health equity for racial and ethnic minorities. Specifically, those disparities/inequities facing communities of color.

While this is only a facet of the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) model. The 14% estimate is somewhat alarming. Yet, it echoes our sentiments and the importance of educational outreach, grassroots advocacy, cultural competence and in monitoring both the heartbeat and pulse of our communities. All for better health outcomes. Remember, what we focus on we fix. There is work to do.
