ABOUT US

At My Sister My Friend we can relate to your experience and understand the challenge to take it all in. Here we have peer (sister to sister) support as well as tele-support. If you are seeking an environment conducive to wholeness and well-being you have come to the right place. Our breast cancer support group welcomes women in any phase of their breast cancer experience. Our board of directors are primarily survivors and experienced in patient care and advocacy. We hope our site will assist you in obtaining the information you seek.

My Sister My Friend Breast Cancer Support is committed to increasing local and national attention to the devastating impact breast cancer has on the African American community.

Miriam HA

Miriam is a Los Angeles native. She developed an early commitment to service and health equity. Her public health volunteerism began in high school, continued through studies at UCLA and graduate Physician's Assistant education, and as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. A primary care Physician Assistant (PA) with over 15 years experience. She has worked throughout LA County, focusing on communities that lack access to care. Her passion for working with disenfranchised communities has culminated in a fulfilling career in corrections medicine where she treats a variety of chronic conditions, while examining issues such as systemic racism and its effect on the health of incarcerated people. A breast cancer survivor as well as a medical professional, there is no greater service that Miriam can envision than to use her skills set and personal experience to advocate for another person who is navigating a similar challenging journey.

Edna Jones 

Edna is a native of Los Angeles and a recent graduate of California State University Long Beach. Having earned her Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice, she currently volunteers to provide free legal services at the Community Free Legal Clinic while pursing her law degree at Loyola Marymount University. Edna has worked for EEOC for more than 15 years. She is a multi-talented and task oriented individual, who has served to make a difference in the lives of women at My Sister My Friend BCS. Edna is also a breast cancer survivor who has made instrumental contributions to the group's programs and services. She is truly dedicated to making an impact, paying it forward and making a huge impact on the lives of others.

Toni Traylor, BSN, RN 

Toni Traylor hails to us from the city of Compton, CA. and currently resides in Fontana, CA. She has made enumerable contributions to our team. She earned her Bachelors in Nursing by way of California State University Dominguez Hills in Carson California. She currently works at Kaiser Permanente, Sunset, where she tends to the critical needs of children in Pediatrics Intensive Care Unit. Toni has worked in patient care for more than 18 years, having begun her career as a Nurse at King-Drew hospital in south central Los Angeles. She has been an advocate in total patient care and understands the needs of families which is critical to the populations she serves. She can also speak to the need for representation, cultural competence in healthcare and access to care.

Tracy Fairbanks 

Tracy  Fairbanks is a native of the South Bay area and currently resides in Carson, CA. She is a Community Program Manager for Kinecta Federal Credit Union with over 20 years experience in Marketing and Community Programs. Aside from her marketing background, her position allows her to be of assistance to others through financial education and community initiatives including Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Mychal’s Learning Place, Richstone Family Center, Kinecta’s annual food drives, scholarship programs, back-to-school drives and others.

Diagnosed with Stage IIB Breast Cancer at the age of 40, Tracy underwent 16-rounds of chemotherapy, a mastectomy, thirty-one treatments of radiation and several reconstructive surgeries all while continuing to work full-time. Since her breast cancer diagnosis, she is even more passionate for breast cancer awareness and advocacy.
